The death occured at his home on March 11th of Mr. Arthur Rupert Morgan, East Grove, Rhayader.

Mr. Morgan who was aged 80, retired from his post as stationmaster at Rhayader in 1949 after 54 years service with the railways. He began his career with the old London and North Western Railway at Whitchurch, and in 1900 he joined the Cambrian Railway as a travelling ticket examiner, and was later appointed assistant station master at Oswestry. Mr. Morgan came to Mid-Wales as a station master at Cemmaes Road and later at Pantydwr and St.Harmon. In 1922 he was appointed station master at Rhayader and supervisor of Rhayader and District.

Mr. Morgan played an important part in the public life of the district and served for many years as a Cwmdauddwr representative on the Rhayader R.D.C. He was also a parish councillor and was chairman of Cwmdauddwr Parish Council for seven years. He was one of the pioneers of the rural housing scheme. For five years he was chairman of the Rhayader Chamber of Trade. An ardent follower of sport he was a past chairman of the Rhayader Football Club. He also acted as secretary of the old Market Hall Young Men\'s Club and started the St. John Ambulance Movement at Rhayader in 1923. He was a member and sidesman of Cwmdauddwr Parish Church and a Parochial Church Councillor. At one time Mr. Morgan was a contributor to some of the local newspapers.

The funeral took place on Tuesday, when a short service was held at the house, followed by a service at Cwmdauddwr Church, where the interment took place. The Rev. Chancellor Thornley Jones (vicar, Cwmdauddwr) officiated, assisted by the Rev. K H. Evans (vicar of Rhayader). The organist was Mr. Martin Pugh. The bearers were Ald. Kinsey Morgan, Messrs. A. Davies, Station House, E. Rees, Pomprensych, Elystan Evans, Gerald Lewis, Tynpistyll, and J.Watkins, Green Gardens.

Ley, Knighton, Mr. Gordon Morgan, Shrewsbury (grandchildren); Miss Alice Mountford, London (sister-in-law); Dilys and Raymond, Miss Evans, The Firs, Major and Mrs. Ellison, Miss Jennie Jones, Mrs. Sharp, Pantydwr (friends), Mr. and Mrs. T.
